Talk About Girl Power: 'Spice World' Tour Bus Now an Airbnb Destination
If you came of age in the 1990s and early 2000s, you were likely a fan of the British girl group sensation, The Spice Girls. From fashion dolls and lollipops to sold-out concerts and a cult classic movie, these cheeky and talented women were practically everywhere. It's clear that the general public's love and adoration for Scary, Baby, Ginger, Sporty, and even Posh haven't faded with time, either; four out of five women are kicking off their stadium tour in the U.K., much to the delight of long-time fans.
With the film returning to theaters for a limited engagement, you can relive your youth even if you don't score a ticket to one of their new shows. While the movie had tons of amazing cameos and visual feats, arguably one of the biggest stars was the Spice Girls' tour bus. Although aggressive driving plays a role in 66% of fatal traffic accidents, not even Victoria Beckham's bad driving could slow that double decker down -- magically allowing the women to make it to their concert at the end of the flick.
And now, you can spice up your life by staying overnight in that same bus.
That's right -- the Spice World tour bus is now an Airbnb. Although there were 976,161 buses registered in the U.S. during 2016, this British bus is really the only one of its kind. Suzanne Godley, a self-proclaimed Spice Girls megafan, has listed the original bus from the 1997 film for a limited time. When Godley's boss told her he was thinking of buying the iconic vehicle, Godley immediately knew she had to be involved in the renovation process.
As Godley explained in a statement:
The Spice Girls were my childhood obsession. My parents were subjected to my tone-deaf performances as Baby Spice, and I must have watched the Spice World movie hundreds of times. And while I have grown up over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever grown out of my love for them... We've worked hard over the past few months to turn the bus into a home, in keeping with its legacy, and I'm so excited to open it up to the public with the support of Airbnb."
The bus will be available for overnight stays on June 14 and 15, which will coincide with the group's tour stop at London's Wembley Stadium. Conveniently, it will be situated in the Wembley Park area and will cost approximately $127 per night to stay. Only three guests will be allowed at one time, all of whom will be required to wear '90s clothing. Selfies are encouraged, though pets are not allowed to join in on the fun.
And while the exterior of the bus retains its well-beloved Union Jack design, the interior has been redone with a nod to the past while embracing current design features. A neon "Girl Power" sign, pink and red Union Jack cinema chairs, vintage magazines and CDs, and trendy millennial pink walls make up the interior. There's a charming eating area, a flat-screen TV, plenty of plants, zebra print carpeting, and more. There's no smoking and no WiFi available, but guests will be forced to sing a rendition of the Spice Girls' "Goodbye" when it's time to check out in the morning -- so it might be well worth disconnecting from social media for a night just to have the experience.
Of course, it's not the exact same vision of the Spice Bus that fans will remember from the movie, as there's no swing, fitness area, or fashion runway to be found. But having the chance to stay overnight can allow you to live out your memories -- and give you what you really, really want out of a kitschy and kooky Airbnb listing.
