Roseanne Barr Says She Knows How They Will Kill Off Her Character, Calls It An "Insult"
Ever since all the drama started over the Roseanne reboot, Roseanne Barr has been very vocal. While her comments ended up getting her fired, she has continued to claim that it was not her intention to come across as racist, using excuses like Ambien to try and apologize.
She even claimed that she had a contract in place to help protect her from being fired for her comments as long as she made an apology, but either way, she lost her show.
The iconic series was brought back for only one season before her actions got her fired, and the show temporarily cancelled while they figured out what to do.
The network ended up buying out the rights to all of the characters so that Barr would no longer receive any royalties from their new spinoff The Conners, and they planned on writing her off the show.
Just last month, John Goodman, aka Dan Conner, revealed what will happen to his on-screen wife.
"I guess he'll be mopey and sad because his wife's dead," Goodman said when asked about what's in store for Dan in the upcoming season.
But now Barr is speaking out again, saying she knows how they are going to kill off her character, and she's not happy about it.
In an interview, the comedian was asked what happens to Roseanne Conner, and she replied, "Oh they killed her. They had her die of an opioid overdose."
She's not happy about the turn they've taken.
"It's not enough to do what they did to me, they had to so cruelly insult the people who love that family and that show, and that's what they chose to do."
She claims that she had to leave to "save her life."
"There's nothing I can do about it, it's done, it's over, there's no fight left. I did what I had to do to save my own life and I did it."
She still believes that it has to do with the fact that she is a Trump supporter.
When asked if she thought this happened to her character as a "warning" for Trump supporters she agreed saying, "We'll ruin you, we'll libel you, we'll take your life's work [if you support Trump.]"
"I'm surprised that many more comedians haven't defended me because they have to know as do all artists who work in the medium of television that with one tweet that they misinterpret, mischaracterize, and fixate on, they'll take your work."
She also claims that the writers for the show were responsible for a lot of the hate she received even prior to her tweet.
When she was recording a promo, she asked her writers to write a joke for it, but it didn't go as expected.
"I said, 'Well, I need a joke here,' and they brought down a joke, and I said, 'I don't think this is the right joke,' and it was a joke about other shows on ABC, other working-class shows, and I said, 'I think this is insulting,' and they said, 'No, it's about all working-class people support all other ones, Asian, black, you know you've got to show that.' And so I just let myself be talked into it so I said it."
"Two days later, the New York Times comes out and uses that joke saying 'This is the racism that the Roseanne show is about.' And I didn't write that, and you know, my instincts were right."
"I was right, it was insulting, but the President of ABC defended that joke in a big article the next day. She defended the writers, not me. She defended the people who wrote the joke and not me. So I was getting slime there double."
She went on to say that she had a troubled relationship with the networks, saying that never understood what she wanted to do, but she knew that they were doing her wrong because of her "spies."
"I know what they do because I have people on the other side too, don't think I don't have spies. Been in show business thirty-some years, I have spies, trust me. And they're high-level spies too."
The story of an opioid addiction came from her real life.
"I had had knee surgery, and I took a lot of pain pills too, and you know that was three years ago, but you know, there was a bit of a fight for me to get off [pills] too so I wanted to put that into show. But I never was going to have Roseanne Conner die of an opioid overdose. It's so cynical and horrible."
As for her castmates, she opened up about their relationship now.
"Here's how I feel, and this is very honest, I feel that they all lost a really good friend. That's it."
Barr will not be returning in any way to the new spinoff show when it premieres on October 16th, but the rest of the family will be there.
