Another Iconic Video Game Is Getting A "Mega" Live-Action Movie

When you were growing up, the library of video games was nowhere near as extensive as it is now. There were obviously a lot of good choices, but compared to the variety now, it was such a small percentage.

Clearly it was because video games were still new when we were all young, but what we lacked in quantity, we made up for in devotion.

Sure, there weren't new games every day that we could play on our phones, or elaborate and large games with graphics that end up looking so realistic it's creepy, but we did have characters that we were totally obsessed with and would follow anywhere.

Mario, Donkey Kong, and Link were some of the biggest names in the Nintendo world, but they were joined by another character named Mega Man who managed to gain a whole bunch of fans.

The game started as a side-scrolling platformer and has eventually evolved into more complex games. But no matter how the game changes, the character remains a fan favorite.

After years of planning and 30 years of the iconic android, Capcom has officially announced that Mega Man is getting his own movie.

In a statement released on their website, Capcom revealed that it will be adapted into a "live-action Hollywood film for the first time."

They go on to reminisce about the origins of the character.

"Mega Man gained a following due to the challenging gameplay that contrasted with the memorable design of its characters; in the 30 years following its launch, the series has spawned numerous spin-offs, which altogether still enjoy the support of a deeply passionate fan base, consisting of everyone from younger players to hardcore gamers alike."

The most recent game in the series was just released on October 2nd, 2018, so as a franchise it's still very much alive and well, but this is the first time Hollywood is going to take a stab at a live-action version.

They have not yet released the plot of the movie, but it's being written and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, and produced by Chernin Entertainment and Masi Oka.

They are hoping that their movie can appeal to a "diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for."

Even though Mega Man isn't quite as popular as say Mario or Donkey Kong, he definitely has his own group of fans. Hopefully they do right by Mega Man and make a movie as epic as his franchise!
