Jim Carrey Shared The Story Of How He Found Out Tommy Lee Jones Hated Him, And It's Pretty Brutal

Batman Forever is not everyone's favorite movie in the Batman franchise, but it's still pretty decent. If you can appreciate the campy nature then Val Kilmer's version of the caped crusader is absolutely enjoyable.

There were two main villains in this movie, The Riddler and Two Face. They were played by Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones respectively.

Even just hearing those two actors mentioned in the same sentence feels wrong. They could not be more different. Jim Carrey is known for his cartoon-like behavior and outlandish sense of humor.

While Tommy Lee Jones has a much more serious attitude and grumpy persona.

They had a lot of scenes together, which meant spending hours and hours together. Apparently this wasn't ideal for Jones.

Carrey shared the story with Howard Stern, explaining what really went on behind the scenes between the two villains...

Tommy Lee Jones is an amazing actor, which Carrey was very clear about. In fact, that was the first thing he said.

"I think what happened was, I was really looking forward to working with Tommy because he's a fantastic actor and he still is to me, I mean he's amazing, but he was a little crusty, he was a little crusty."

But he didn't stop there. He suggested that Jones' Ivy League education was perhaps one of the things that caused the riff, saying that "Sometimes that Rhodes Scholarship is more of a weapon than an asset."

Carrey suspected that his recent success may have soured their relationship before they even met. "I think he was just a little freaked out because Dumb and Dumber came out on the same weekend as Cobb, and Cobb was his big swing for the fences and that didn't work out and that freaked him out a bit I think."

The rivalry was pretty intense. At one point Carrey went to dinner and just happened to be at the same restaurant that Jones was at. He went by to say hello because they were shooting a scene the next day but apparently Jones wasn't happy about it. "I went up to say hi and the blood drained from his face, in such a way that I realized that I had become the face of his pain or something."

"He got up, kind of shaking, and hugged me and said 'I hate you. I really don't like you,'" Carrey said.

He immediately asked why and apparently Jones said "I cannot sanction your buffoonery."

Even though they didn't click on a personal level, Carry still says that "He's a phenomenal actor though. I still love him."

At least they were able to finish the movie and honestly their animosity towards each other probably helped their villainous attitudes!
