Jim Carrey, the man who made looking like a fool cool, is still one of the most beloved comedy stars today.

He's funny, philosophical, brilliant, inspirational, and questionable, all at the same time.

How does that work, we're not sure, just like how we are not quite sure how his brain works.

1. He wrote letters to Tupac Shakur when he was behind bars.

To lift Tupac's spirits, Carrey wrote letters to Tupac because he had previously said that Carrey was his favorite actor.

2. He started his comedy career in Canada.

His dad was super supportive and always drove him from Newmarket to Toronto to pursue his career in comedy. His first gig was at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

3. He was forced to quit school when he was 15 to help support his family.

He took a job as a janitor to help make ends meet.

5. He mailed his resume to Carol Burnett.

When he was 10 years old, Carrey wrote a letter to The Carol Burnett Show that mentioned his talents why he'd be great on the show. Unfortunately, he got rejected.

6. He used to wear tap dancing shoes to bed.

“I had a sick mom, man. I wanted to make her feel better […] Basically, I think she laid in bed and took a lot of pain pills. And I wanted to make her feel better. And I used to go in there and do impressions of praying mantises, and weird things, and whatever. I’d bounce off the walls and throw myself down the stairs to make her feel better," Carrey said.

Carrey told CBS News in 2004 that "there are peaks, there are valleys" when it comes to his depression: "But they’re all kind of carved and smoothed out, and it feels like a low level of despair you live in. Where you’re not getting any answers, but you’re living OK. And you can smile at the office. You know? But it’s a low level of despair. You know?"

Carrey starred in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective in 1994, which was his first lead role in a major film. That same year, he starred in The Mask and Dumb and Dumber. All three films were box office hits.
