'Hocus Pocus' Is Coming Back, But You Probably Won't Be Happy About It
Hocus Pocus is arguably the best Halloween movies ever. Some people might think that horror movies might be a better choice, but honestly who is better than the Sanderson sisters? No one, that's who.
The original movie starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as the three Sanderson sisters who terrorized a town after they were resurrected in Salem.
Well, now we have a little bit of concerning news. A Disney Channel spokesperson has confirmed that the network is planning on remaking the 90s classic, with none of the original cast.
That's right, the movie Hocus Pocus is getting resurrected as a made-for-TV movie with a new cast and a new director.
We don't know a whole lot yet, but what we do know is making us nervous...
The new project is going to be a "re-imagining" of the original. The only person who is set to come back for this new version is producer, David Kirschner. Former screen writers Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris will not be back, and the original director is also not supposed to be a part of the project.
Sequels are often discussed, especially when the original is so well loved. The problem with this whole new cast idea is that the original sisters have discussed the fact that they would enjoy doing a sequel.
Sarah Jessica Parker has said in past interviews that "I would love that. I think we've all been fairly vocal about being very keen, but that hasn't created any ground swell of movement."
Midler once addressed a fan's question about a sequel by telling them to "inundate the Disney company." She continued by saying, "I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask the Walt Disney company."
I guess no one told them that they were planning this project then! It makes sense that they wouldn't be able to afford the cost of the three big stars for a small TV movie, but without them is it even worth doing?
What do you think? Do you want a TV movie sequel or do you think they should just make a real sequel with the real Sanderson sisters?
