With A Voice You Couldn't Possibly Forget, Does Anyone Actually Know Where Gilbert Gottfried Is Anymore?
Remember Gilbert Gottfried? He seemed to be everywhere in the 90s and then all the sudden he was gone. Where did he go?
His voice is nothing short of iconic, with its unique and comical tone. Not to mention his wonderful performance as Iago in Aladdin. At least that's what I know him best as. More recently he was voicing the Afflac duck- apparently only doing voice-over work if he could be a bird. Bold career move.
People turned on Gottfried after he made a series of bad jokes on Twitter back in 2011, about the earthquake disaster that devastated Japan. He was actually fired from his voiceover position with Aflac, because 75% of their business is done in Japan. He got replaced as the Aflac duck by Daniel McKegue.
According to his IMDB page, his nickname is "America's Creepy Uncle" which, honestly, is fitting. Everyone has that one uncle who says something terrible but you obviously still invite them to Christmas. Hollywood has apparently continued to let him hang around, with voice-over work in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, an appearance in Sharknado 4, and even as himself in The Comedian and Episodes.
As a comedian, it's obviously not that unusual to make a bad and insensitive joke. It seems to happen to almost all of them even though it probably shouldn't. His career may have stumbled, but apparently America's Creepy Uncle is far from done in Hollywood! He even has his own podcast now if you find yourself missing that voice...
