New Details About The "Charmed" Reboot's Story Line Revealed

Back in November, The CW officially announced that the 90s hit show Charmed will be getting the reboot treatment. Just like all the other revivals of our favorite television shows from back in the day, it was hinted that the show will return with a major twist.

At the time, Entertainment Weekly reported that the new show will not be a continuation of the original series, which ended 12 years ago, instead it will be a prequel. The new version written by Jessica O’Toole, Amy Rardin and Jennie Snyder, was initially supposed to take the viewers back to 1976.

Understandably, fans were worried about how the writers would make the new story flow since the plot is set decades before the 1998 show.

Also, there was some concern about who will be stars of the new show, and whether or not Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, and Holly Marie Combs, who played the Halliwell sisters, will return.

Now, just a few months after The CW's announcement, the network has released more details about the upcoming reboot, and they've shaken things up once again.

The CW has now officially ordered a pilot for the Charmed reboot, which is expected to air during the 2018-2019 season.

The long-awaited revival of the 90s show about a coven of sister-witches who use their powerful forces to fight evil will feature a rather progressive twist.

Here's the official description:

"This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done."

Contrary to what was initially announced, the show will now be set in the present day.

The new story opens up an opportunity for the original cast members, including Rose McGowan, who played the Halliwell's long-lost half-sister, Paige Matthews, to make appearances. Who knows, maybe they'll even be series regulars. A fan can dream, right?

There is no premiere date as of yet, but it is very likely that the show will be part of the network's fall lineup.
