Christopher Lloyd Wants To Go 'Back To The Future' As Doc Brown One More Time

Watching Back to the Future was an experience unlike any other. It's one of those movies that you watch and say to yourself "Oh, this is what movies should be."

There is so much about this movie that is amazing, and while Marty McFly may be the star, I think we can all agree that Doc Brown will always hold a special place in our hearts.

As it turns out, Doc Brown is also beloved by the actor who played him.

Christopher Lloyd managed to make this eccentric scientist believable, even though he was talking about "Flux Capacitors" and time travel. When you saw this movie, you had no doubt that a guy like Doc could make that Delorean go back in time.

Honestly, when you look at Christopher Lloyd in real life, it's kind of hard not to see Doc Brown. If Lloyd walked up to you on the street and said he could travel through time, you'd probably believe him.

Well, apparently that convincing attitude is partially caused by the fact that Lloyd legitimately loves those movies. He actually would love to continue them.

“I’d be delighted. I'd love to be in a fourth film, if they could come up with the right idea that extends the story and does it as well as the first three," Lloyd said in an interview with Phoenix New Times.

But he's quick to say that he'd want it to be with the original creators, saying “it’s important if Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale are excited about doing another episode.”

“I think, really, the most important thing is if they can come up with the right idea. I think that's the challenge is to come up with something that really is as good as the originals. I suppose it could happen. I have not heard that they're looking for that, if they've made up their minds... ‘hey, here's something we could do,’ and they believed in it then they might get going to do it.”

While nothing is in the works, or even potentially in the works, Lloyd says never say never.

“I would say that it's always possible. If they get the right script together that really could work. They don't want to do something that's going to come across as [disappointing]. You know sometimes sequels don't live up the originals and it's disappointing, and I know they don't want that to happen."

He's quick to add that there are no plans at the moment, and if Zemeckis and Gale have anything to do with it, a fourth installment or reboot won't ever happen.

In 2015, the creators celebrated the 30th anniversary of the iconic franchise by making a promise to never remake it.

“That can’t happen until both Bob and I are dead. And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it," Zemeckis said.

He didn't want to remake something that was already so great.

“I mean, to me, that’s outrageous,” he continued. “Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?”

That doesn't mean that the studio doesn't want to make the movie though. Apparently he's driving executives insane by refusing.

“It’s like a pre-sold title for them,” he said “It would open gigantically [at the box office]. That’s all that anyone cares about.”

But he holds strong. “The idea of making another Back to the Future movie without Michael J Fox — you know, that’s like saying, ‘I’m going to cook you a steak dinner and I’m going to hold the beef.'"

I think it's safe to say this is one reboot we don't have to worry about, but if they find a way to continue the story as a fourth installment, who knows. At least it's nice to know Christopher Lloyd would want to come back!
