Fox Really Wants A 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' Reboot, And Honestly We'd Rather Get Staked

Bad news everyone, the reboot train is still chugging along, picking up unwilling and unwanted passengers along the way.

At first the reboots were cute. It was nice to have those little reminders of our past. Sure, tell me what happened to the Tanner sisters, I'll admit I was curious. Or remake my favorite Disney movies with real humans instead of cartoons, because I can very easily ignore those and just watch my old VHS versions a hundred times.

I know I shouldn't be too precious with the past, because a lot of things we grew up watching were remakes of other versions anyways, but there comes a point when it has gone too far, and honestly, I think we're getting close.

We've all been getting increasingly annoyed at every reboot announcement, but this one has hit the peek. Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of the most amazing TV shows of our time. I know what you're thinking, Buffy was a movie first, but hear me out, I don't really care. The movie is awesome in its own right, but the TV show was an iconic piece of history that shaped the way a lot of us thought.

Buffy was so strong and awesome, giving us young girls someone to look up to. Sure, I wasn't fighting vampires, but it was nice to know that I could. If Buffy could find the strength to kill a bunch of monsters every week, I could get my math homework done.

But now, they want to bring it back to the next generation and fans like me are not okay with it. Here's what they've been saying...

Joss Whedon created the show on Fox, and now rumor has it that it's the next in line for a reboot. Well, not so much a rumor, but a plea from the network to Whedon, gently suggesting that if he wants to do it, they are ready and willing to throw money at the project.

Fox TV group's chair, Gary Newman, has said that reboots are something "we talk about frequently."

"Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with,” Newman said. “When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen.”

The fact is, the reboots that Fox has been making haven't all been winners, but he knows that there is an advantage to giving them a try.

“Most times when we brought things back, it started with the creator coming into us and saying I’ve got another story I want to tell,” he said. “It seems to me that if there isn’t a real sense of nostalgia, a passionate fan base demonstrating they still want it then I don’t really buy bringing these shows back.”

Newman is willing to admit that remaking or revisiting these old stories helps get your foot through the door when it comes to building an audience. “I think more than anything it’s a marketing opportunity,” he said. “People are aware of the show, you don’t have to build awareness. If the show’s beloved, you get a great deal of intent to view right from the get go.”

But so far it seems as though he's not willing to force it if the creator is not willing to do it. Newman said, “If you do it cynically, if you don’t have a great creative reason to do it, I don’t think it’s going to work.”

So needless to say, we're a little bit worried. Whedon is very attached to the property, so let's hope that if he does decide to remake or reboot it he does it justice.

But let's be honest for a second, we don't really need it, right?
