'Back To The Future' Creator Finally Reveals How Marty and Doc Brown Became Friends

I don't know about you, but when I watch Back To The Future it's not the time travel I have issues with. My confusion comes from the fact that a teenager is best friends with a very old man.

I mean, we maybe didn't think it was strange the first time we watched it, but as time goes on and you see the movie more and more, you start to wonder how they met.

They never really address it in the movies, even though they had three separate chances to even give us a simple sentence like "we met at the library" or "I knew his dad". Instead they just left us hanging for decades.

The first movie came out in 1985, making it 33 years old now, but a few years ago the creator finally was able to explain how Marty McFly became best friends with Doc Brown.

A lot of people claim their meeting IS mentioned in the movie, but Bob Gale, producer and writer of the original movie, cleared it all up.

"Okay, from the horse’s mouth (yes, I’m the horse — er, co-writer, co-creator): We never explained it in the movie.

He then went on to explain exactly how Marty met Doc Brown when he was only 13 or 14, after hearing a lot of rumors about the scientist.

"For years, Marty was told that Doc Brown was dangerous, a crackpot, a lunatic. So, being a red-blooded American teenage boy, age 13 or 14, he decided to find out just why this guy was so dangerous. Marty snuck into Doc’s lab, and was fascinated by all the cool stuff that was there.

That's when Doc found him.

"When Doc found him there, he was delighted to find that Marty thought he was cool and accepted him for what he was. Both of them were the black sheep in their respective environments. Doc gave Marty a part-time job to help with experiments, tend to the lab, tend to the dog, etc."

Obviously it could have turned out completely different if Doc wasn't so cool about a teenager breaking into his lab, but it all worked out for the best!
