Angela Lansbury Isn't Thrilled About The Beauty And The Beast Remake
The original Mrs. Potts is not very happy that Disney decided to redo to the 1991 cartoon. Angela Lansbury, three-time Academy Award nominee and all around treasure has some harsh words for the live-action remake.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Disney cartoon, Lansbury gave an interview with Entertainment Weekly and was asked about her thoughts on the Emma Waston version set to come out in March. Her answer was surprisingly honest and just a little bit harsh.
"I was a bit taken aback, naturally" Lansbury said when asked to react, going on to express her concerns. "I thought, why? Why are we doing this over again?"
While she added that "it will be interesting to see what they do with it," she stood up for the classic cartoon by saying "I can't understand what they're going to do with it that will be better than what we've done."
She did mention that Emma Thompson, the new voice of Mrs. Potts, is a very good friend of hers so at least she is okay with her replacement -even though she admitted that it will be very strange to see someone else bring the character to life.
While Lansbury isn't sold on the idea, she seems to be hopeful for the live-action adaptation.
"It may turn to be very entertaining and wonderful. It won't be like the cartoon that we did, but it's a good story -it's one of the famous fairy stories that is known worldwide by children. Therefore, why not?
She still holds strong that her version was the best version.
I don't blame them for doing it. But, they're not really on our territory. We did it as cartoon characters, and that is quite different from live actors."
While I am cautiously optimistic for the live-action version, I agree that there is not going to live up to the cartoon.
What do you think? Do you agree with Angela Lansbury?
