Alfonso Ribeiro Reveals His Opinion On A 'Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air' Reunion
Alfonso Ribeiro played the wonderful Carlton Banks for many years on the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. We spent many years imitating his epic dance moves and joking about his unique style. But with so many reboots and reunions happening, people have been constantly asking if he would be up for another season of the hit show.
Ribeiro has been very honest with his thoughts on the program, and it doesn't matter how much Tom Jones you play, he's not going to bite.
“A Fresh Prince reunion will never happen,” Ribeiro said, after performing on Dancing with the Stars with current contestant and former sitcom star Frankie Muniz. He had a few reasons, one of which will break your heart.
“I would love it if the world would just let it go,” he said. “It’s wonderful that everybody loves what we did 25 years ago, but I believe in current and future. People who live in the past, you’re not moving forward.”
“We have a saying, if you’re standing still, you’re getting passed — so I don’t look back,” he added. “I don’t look to see what’s happening behind me. I continue to move forward and try to create new and try to create better.”
He may seem uninterested in the show, but something that he said proves that it's actually based on some real emotional reasons. Ribeiro said that “James Avery is gone — there is no reason to do it."
James Avery played Uncle Phil on the hit show and was one of the main characters. His relationship with Will, Carlton, and every other character, was the emotional core of almost every episode. Without him, Ribeiro is probably right, there is no point to continue the story.
While he is unwilling to do a reunion of his own show, he understands that other shows need to finish up their story lines. He said, "If that’s what you think y’all need to do, go ahead and do it. I don’t think Fresh Prince needs to be redone. It’s history, and I love it.”
