10 Accessories Every 80s Girl Wore That Have Thankfully Not Stood The Test Of Time
You know those times you're just sitting thinking about the good ol' days and you smile? Well, do you actually think of everything? I'm not saying today's fashion is amazing compared to eighties fashion. The 80s had style, don't get me wrong. I loved all the color, scrunchies, slogan t-shirts, Reebok shoes, and a bunch of other things.
But there were some things I didn't love at all, like these 10 accessories that EVERY 80s girl owned. I'm sure you'll agree. There's a reason they haven't stood the test of time...
1. Plastic Charms
I don't know what I was thinking walking around with five pounds of extra weight on my neck. My bookbag was heavy enough. Those charms were so addicting to collect, though.
2. Rubber Bracelets
I remember seeing Madonna wearing these rubber bracelets, thinking, "Wow, if the queen is wearing it, I should be too." I don't know what it was about 80s accessories, but they were all terrible quality. Those plastic charms scratched my neck and these rubber bracelets would stick to my skin in the summer. The thing is, it wasn't just one or two bands. You'd have to buy them in bulk to achieve Madonna's look.
3. Massive Leg Warmers
In hindsight, this wasn't a good fashion choice, but at least our legs were always warm.
4. Fingerless Gloves
Again with our obsession of accessories that provide warmth... I never wore this, but I sure did judge everyone who did. I could see pencils slipping from people's grasp as they tried to write something in their notebook with these cut-up gloves on. They were honestly good for nothing.
5. T-Shirt Clips
What said, 'I want my t-shirt to be tighter than ever,' more than a t-shirt clip? They were poor quality and extremely tacky, but they were quite functional. I'd only use them for gym class, but many of my friends clipped them on every day. I'm sure they cringe when looking back at their childhood pictures.
6. Massive Hair Bows
You either still love or hate these. I'm more of the latter. As these became more popular, they started getting bigger, which meant you had to be very careful when a girl moved her head around.
7. Cyclops Sunglasses
While mostly men wore these hideous sunglasses, some girls loved the fad too. I never got the appeal, they would never sit right on your face, so what's the purpose? They couldn't solely just be for style...
8. Ridiculously Big Hair
A lot of perms. A lot of hairspray. A lot of bigness. Okay, this wasn't an accessory, but it might as well have been. I wasn't a fan of this hairstyle even in the 80s, but sometimes you have to jump on the bandwagon and just go with the flow. I wish the flow wasn't everywhere on your head! You live and learn.
9. Scary eyeliner/eyeshadow
I don't know who started the trend of making your face have colorful raccoon eyes, but I'm so glad we caught on to how strange this looks.
10. Shoulder Pads
My mom had a closet full of shoulder pads that we just got rid of. I think she was hoping it would come back in fashion, but that ship sailed long ago.
Which 80s accessories did you rock the best? Do you still wear any of them?
