'A League Of Their Own' Is Coming To TV And We're Hoping It's A Home Run
We all learned that there was "no crying in baseball," but apparently there is a lot of laughter, because A League of Their Own is coming back, but this time as a half-hour sitcom!
The classic 90s movie about the baseball league that was created during the second World War stole audience's hearts, and they are hoping that there are still a few home run stories to tell with a new show.
It's kind of a reboot, so I get it if you're hesitant, but even if you don't like the new show, there's always the original movie to go back to.
The original movie had a huge cast of characters, many of which have gone on to become enormous stars. Tom Hanks as the cranky coach was obviously an amazing choice, but it was the team of women that really made the movie.
Geena Davis and Lori Petty managed to represent that sisterly bond that anyone who has their own sister knows, while the rest of the team was absolutely perfect. Between "All the Way" Mae and Betty "Spaghetti," the whole team was full of unique and well developed characters that honestly gave a lot of depth to the story.
The one thing about a movie is that there isn't a lot of time to look into the side characters, so now they are looking to expand the world by turning A League of Their Own into a TV show! It makes sense, it was a successful property and basically everything that made any amount of money is rebooted and repackaged now, but let's see what were in for before we get too mad.
Here's what they have planned for the reboot so far:
The show is going to be a half-hour comedy still focusing on the creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The official logline for the show is very descriptive:
"A League of Their Own is a half-hour comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The show will begin with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the Rockford Peaches, season to season as they struggle to keep the team alive through close games, injuries, late night bar crawls, sexual awakenings, not crying and road trips across a rapidly changing United States.
The series dives deeper into the issues facing the country while following a ragtag team of women figuring themselves out while fighting to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball."
This isn't the first time they tried to make A League of Their Own into a TV show. In 1993, CBS tried to give Betty "Spaghetti" a spinoff, but only six episodes were produced.
The new series is being written and produced by Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City).
Apparently it will not feature either Davis or Petty, but so far we don't know who the new focus of the show will be. We will let you know as soon as we find out! As for our original Peaches? They've all moved on to some other projects that you can find out about here.
Are you excited for a new TV show based on A League of Their Own?
