Study Reveals Each State's Favorite 90s Cartoon And The Results Are Unexpected
Everyone has their own favorite cartoon, but have you ever wondered if the one you loved most had anything to do with where you grew up?
Maybe you just related to the characters more, maybe everyone in your town just had a big phase where you all watched the same shows, or maybe it's completely based on the channels you had available.
A lot of factors influence which shows are your favorite, but the 90s had a lot of good options to choose from.
Kids shows in particular were absolutely epic in the 90s. There was something for everyone, but how do you pick a favorite?
Well, a study done by Frontier Bundles reveals which 90s cartoon is the most popular in each state. Here's one qualifier though, a lot of you may think that The Simpsons might win out, but because it technically started in 1989 it was kept out of the running.
These are all the most popular 90s shows in America, and which state they are most popular in. How did they pick the winner? Well they analyzed the Google Trending data to identify which shows people are still looking for, and sorted them into groups based on which show came out on top.
Here are the top 90s shows, and which states loved them the most:
Courage the Cowardly Dog
Popular in: Alabama, Florida, Nevada, and Oklahoma
This one slips in just under the cut off date, starting in 1999, but it lasted for 4 seasons and remains the most popular 90s cartoon in four states. Not too shabby!
Ren and Stimpy
Popular In: Alaska
The crude humor of Ren & Stimpy seemed to be a favorite up in Alaska. People are still loving it after all these years.
Rugrats
Popular In: Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia
The classic show about babies who go on a bunch of strange adventures is a real winner. They managed to get three states to fall head over heels in love with them for decades now.
Hey Arnold!
Popular In: New Jersey and New York
These two states are very close together, and I guess it helps them have similar interests because the iconic show manages to hold some nostalgic value even after all these years.
Recess
Popular In: Arkansas, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin
To the surprise of no one, Recess ends up with a bunch of fans. It's pretty fair though, the show is perfect.
Sailor Moon
Popular In: California and Connecticut
Apparently the anime show about teen crime fighters managed to become popular on both coasts.
Dragon Ball Z
Popular In: Louisiana and Mississippi
Another anime that managed to gain some ground in America, Dragon Ball Z became a favorite for a lot of people, especially in Louisiana and Mississippi.
X-Men
Popular In: New Mexico
Honestly, this one surprised me a bit that more states weren't a fan. Everyone where I grew up was obsessed with this show!
Doug
Popular In: Delaware and Massachusetts
This cartoon will never be forgotten, did anyone else wish they had a dog like Porkchop?
Powerpuff Girls
Popular In: District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia
These tough young ladies managed to fight their way into a lot of hearts and they refuse to let people forget about them.
Darkwing Duck
Popular In: Maine
He was a little bit more intense and mysterious than Huey, Duey, and Louie, but all these Disney ducks made us happy. It's hard to pick a favorite but I guess Maine did!
Dexter's Laboratory
Popular In: North Dakota
I cannot say or read the word "laboratory" without hearing it in my head the way Dexter says it.
Pokemon
Popular In: Idaho and Vermont
Who didn't fall in love with Pikachu and all the other little Pokemon? Even if you didn't collect the cards the show was still fun to watch.
Arthur
Popular In: Illinois and Minnesota
It's always a wonderful kind of day when you choose Arthur as your favorite. Even if D.W. is there to try and ruin it.
The Magic School Bus
Popular In: Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, and South Dakota
Seat belts everyone! This show never stops being informative, so it makes perfect sense that it is still super popular in many states.
Spider-Man
Popular In: Rhode Island
He does what ever a spider can, but better because after twenty years he's still beloved by many.
Batman: The Animated Series
Popular In: Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, and Wyoming
Managing to remain popular after all these years across several states is an impressive feat, but one that Batman could obviously handle no problem. He comes out on top for all of America.
Digimon Adventure
Popular In: Hawaii and Washington
It seems as though Digimon is a west coast specific favorite, but I'm sure there are people all around the world who still love it.
Pinky And the Brain
Popular In: Nebraska
Narf! This one is another that I would have thought would get more votes, but at least some people still love it.
Superman: The Animated Series
Popular In: Utah
Apparently all the 90s kids in Utah still asking if it's a bird or a plane, but they obviously are hoping it's Superman.
Animaniacs
Popular In: Colorado
I don't know why more people don't love this show, because in my opinion it was one of the best of the best!
SpongeBob Squarepants
Popular In: Indiana and Pennsylvania
Spongebob is still on TV now, which proves that even the most ridiculous premise can work if it's fun.
The Tick
Popular In: New Hampshire and Oregon
He's big, he's tough, but his name really isn't the best. He's probably managed to keep some of his popularity thanks to the recent reboot that Amazon made.
Was this accurate to your favorite show? Or is your favorite not even on the list?
