Jane Fonda Confirms The '9 To 5' Sequel Is Happening And Hints At What's Planned
The news that a new 9 To 5 movie was coming had us all a little intrigued, but without any confirmations we weren't about to get our hopes up. It's always disappointing when you hear about a sequel that you actually want, only to find out they are rebooting it with an all new cast.
But don't worry, because the one and only Jane Fonda has come to the rescue and given us the answers we've been wondering about the rumored follow up to the 80s classic.
On Wedneday, Fonda revealed that not only has she been involved with the sequel, she's actually one of the people working to bring it together.
“My role is as an executive producer, and I’m working with the writers, with Lily, and talking to the writers."
Not only that, but she confirmed that as of right now, all three stars are planning on reprising their roles.
“Right now, Dolly [Parton], Lily [Tomlin] and I are all intending to be in it.”
The rumors of the sequel started back in March when it was revealed that Rashida Jones was writing a follow up.
At the time, Parton was the first to chime in, saying that "All these years we’ve talked about doing a sequel to 9 to 5 and it never made any real sense until just recently. We decided that we are going to do another one. We are trying to get the script and all that, everyone is very interested and we’ve all agreed that we’d love to do it if it’s right.”
She joked about the fact that they need to get to it sooner rather than later. “I told them we better get after it or it’s going to be 95 instead of 9 to 5."
Fonda had some hints as to what the movie would be about, claiming that it'll expand on the story of the original.
She hinted that technology would be a big part in it, as well as how outsourcing has changed the work force.
“I’m sorry to say the situation is worse today. Today a lot of the workforce is hired by an outside company. Who do you talk to if you have a problem?”
The three actresses have remained friends since making the movie, and Fonda and Tomlin actually have been working together on the Netflix show Grace & Frankie for several years now.
