9 Beloved Characters From Your Childhood That You Had No Idea Were The Same Person

You may not know Tom Kenny's face, but you definitely know his voice. He started acting back in 1989, and he's gone on to voice some of the best cartoon characters. Here's a few of our favorites!

1) Spongebob Squarepants - Spongebob, Gary

Probably his best-known role, Kenny has played the talking yellow sponge since the show began back in 1999. He also does the cat noises that come from his pet snail, Gary!

2) Rocko's Modern Life - Heffer Wolfe

Kenny voiced Rocko's best friend Heff, giving the show what was probably its best-known catchphrase, "That was a hoot!" He's even coming back to the role in the upcoming Rocko's Modern Life finale movie!

3) Spyro the Dragon - Spyro

If you grew up with the original PlayStation, you definitely played the Spyro the Dragon games, which means you definitely heard Kenny's voice as the titular purple dragon for a full three games!

4) The Powerpuff Girls - Narrator, The Mayor

Yup, he's the voice that starts off every episode with "The CITY of TOWNSVILLE." He's also the city's perpetually ineffective (and sometimes raunchy) Mayor.

The sleazy owner of multiple New New York sports teams, Abner has Kenny doing his best impression of a fast-talking 30s businessman, and it's consistently hilarious.

9) Adventure Time - Ice King, Gunter

The maniacal villain with a surprisingly sad life story, the Ice King is one of Kenny's most nuanced and surprising roles. As a bonus, he also voices his army of penguins named Gunter.
