10 Times Great Video Games Became Awful Movies

As video games have become a bigger part of pop culture, a lot of movie and TV studios have tried to capitalize on this by adapting our favorite games. Sometimes the results are awesome, like the 90s Mortal Kombat movie or the recent Castlevania Netflix series. Most often, and especially with these 10, the results are just hilariously bad.

Super Mario Bros.

A movie so bad that Nintendo still won't let movie studios use Mario to this day.

Street Fighter

Unfortunately the final movie of Raul Julia, Jean-Claude Van Damme leads a pretty lame adaptation of a fighting game whose plot is already pretty bad.

Doom

Future movie stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Karl Urban, and Rosamund Pike star in an adaptation of the shooter series that has a cool first-person segment, but otherwise not much else.

House of the Dead

A horror adaptation of a cheesy first-person shooter arcade game, this is just a complete mess of a movie.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Angelina Jolie turns in a solid performance as gaming's leading adventure lady, but ultimately the movie is predictable and just kind of boring.

Based on the space-shooter series on the PC, it features a nonsense plot and terrible acting.

It couldn't be easy to try to adapt a game about two martial artists fighting a gang to rescue a girl, but we still like to think the results should've been WAY better than this.

From the same director as House of the Dead, this hilariously awful horror movie pits Christian Slater and Tara Reid against legions of demons.

DOA: Dead or Alive

They tried to make a movie based on a fighting game best-known for its incredibly buxom female fighters, and the results are about as cheesy and bad as you'd expect.
