10 Action Movies From The 90s That Still Get Our Adrenaline Pumping

While most people think of the 80s as the pinnacle of action movies, the 90s were definitely no slouch either. The scripts got smarter, the editing got tighter, and most of all, the action itself really had to step up its game. Here are 10 movies that prove that 90s action movies are still amazing today.

Léon: The Professional

The touching story of a young girl whose parents are killed by crooked cops, only for her to be taken in by a mafia hitman. It's one of the most underrated movies of the 90s and has amazing performances by Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, and a 12-year-old Natalie Portman.

The Rock

Michael Bay's best movie teams up Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery against a group of U.S. Marines that have hijacked a biological weapon and fortified the island of Alcatraz, and the results are still awesome.

Air Force One

Harrison Ford is the President of the United States, Gary Oldman is the Russian insurgent who has hijacked his plane, and Ford wants him off his plane right now. Still awesome after all these years.

Hard Boiled

John Woo's masterpiece and the movie that defined Hong Kong action cinema. It's often referred to as a "bullet ballet," and it's easy to see why.

The movies get even crazier from here...

Ronin

This movie has everything; Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, and some of the best car chases in cinema history. What else could you possibly want?

Point Break

From the director that would eventually give us The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty comes a story about Patrick Swayze's surfing bank robbers and the FBI agent destined to take them down, Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah. It's cheesy, it's ridiculous, it's awesome.

Die Hard: With A Vengeance

While nothing will ever top the original Die Hard (especially since it's the greatest Christmas movie of all time), the third movie in the franchise comes REALLY close. It probably helps that Bruce Willis gets to team up with Samuel L. Jackson to fight Jeremy Irons.

Face/Off

One of the silliest yet most awesome action movies ever made, John Travolta and Nicolas Cage end up literally swapping faces and taking over each other's lives. It's amazing for just watching these two acting giants pretending to be each other.

True Lies

Arnold Schwarzenegger teams up with James Cameron for a third time, but this time Arnie's not a robot from the future. Instead, he's an everyday family man who also happens to be an international super spy, but his family doesn't know about it. The results are surprisingly great.

The Fugitive

An action movie so awesome it won Tommy Lee Jones his Oscar and was even up for Best Picture, The Fugitive sees Harrison Ford framed for murder and Jones tasked with tracking him down. One of the all-time greats.
